Noel Sheppard: “How much must you hate America to think that all we do is kill Islamic people?”

It’s amazing how incredulous Noel Sheppard seems to be regarding the murderous tragedies that have occurred in the Middle East, largely instigated by the United States.

In a May 28 rant, the Associate editor lectured MSNBC host Chris Matthews on how much he must “hate America” due to his critical views regarding our country’s reactionary foreign policy strategies (emphasis mine):

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews thinks all America seems to do these days with regard to foreign policy is kill Islamic people.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: […]

I got a better idea. Why don’t we push for some sort of transition of that country in Syria, some sort of cease-fire? We take the side of the side that agrees to let revenge go, let peace emerge between the warring groups, or we don’t. We stay out.

Sound naive? Well, the only way I can justify getting into a war is if I thought one side offered a threat to the United States. Any other policy option should be that we are not, once again, as we’ve been for more than a decade, simply out there on international television killing Islamic people. It’s all we seem to do these days. And guess what? The Islamic people of the world including those here in this country are watching.

Sheppard then callously quips “Honestly, how much must you hate America to think that all we do is kill Islamic people?“, accusing the host of the same baseless smears that liberal politicians suffered with throughout the Bush years, mainly because of their opposition to the Iraq war. I’m not sure if Sheppard has been awake enough during the last decade to realize the incredible humanitarian travesties that have taken place in a hostile region of the world, particularly since 9/11.

In reality, most of it has, in fact, consisted of the U.S. invading and bombing countries that have never attacked us, attempting to create democratic governments in the midst of complicated civil wars, carelessly launching drone strikes that kill innocent women and children in a number of countries (which we are not at war with), and so on. The war crimes and immoral decisions we have been a part of, in the clever guise of “keeping Americans safe“, has lead to the United States to continue being loathed by all those Middle east countries and their citizens.

Unlike Matthews, apparently Sheppard is okay with cheering on any and all decisions the United States makes when it comes to violence against supposed enemies, even if we aren’t at liberty to do so and are putting innocent lives at risk in the process. No matter what, if you disagree with any foreign policy decisions, you get branded as hating your country.

This is just another example of NewsBusters smearing liberals who have the gall to stick to their principles of non-violence against other countries, and actually letting those governments handle their own issues. Apparently, if you’re a chicken-hawk conservative like Sheppard, you follow whatever path that makes America more powerful, while leaving those nations, you claim to want to help, in complete ruins.

Does NewsBusters even care about innocent civilians being killed in other countries? If they did, they would have condemned all of the wars that were waged by their savior, George W. Bush, a long time ago.
